We are a member society of NADFAS (the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies). NADFAS is an arts based educational charity with nearly 90,000 members and 338 societies in the U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
NADFAS' aims are 'to promote and advance the aesthetic education of the public, the appreciation and study of decorative and fine arts, and the giving of aid to the preservation of our artistic heritage for the benefit of the public'. These aims are promoted through lectures, special interest days, visits, tours and, through volunteer activities such as Church Recorders, Heritage Volunteers and Young Arts.
Our monthly meetings with lectures cover a wide range of subjects including painting, literature, furniture, architecture, precious metals & stones, ceramics and textiles. The speakers are mostly selected from the NADFAS directory of lecturers and are of a very high standard. These meetings are included in the cost of membership. (Non Members are welcome to attend up to 3 meetings a year and we suggest a voluntary donation of £7 per lecture).
We also organise visits and special interest days (SIDs). Over the last year our special interest days were very well attended and fascinating: Samuel Pepys and his Diary, the Arts and Crafts Movement in England and Other Countries and this March the Norwich School of Painters. We have had full coaches for visits to Bletchley Park, the Gaugin exhibition in London and to the Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery to build on the SID by studying the paintings of the Norwich School "up close and personal". The combined SID and coach trip was a new venture for us and was much appreciated by Members.
Information about our future events are on our calendar. Full details of coach trips and SIDs with the cost for Members and Non Members will be on the booking forms, which are available at our monthly meetings. (Members benefit from a reduction of £2 on the cost of tickets).
